Help on SEARCHING THE DATABASEClick here to return to the Search screen
  • For a broad search, type a word or phrase in one of the search fields to retrieve a group of records.
E.g. 'mainframe' in OBJECT NAME field.
  • For a narrower search, type keywords in two or more fields. This is equivalent to an 'AND' statement
E.g. 'Ferranti' in MAKER field and 'Pegasus' in BRAND NAME.
  • To search on a broader range of dates, e.g. by decade
Type a '%' after the decade year in the DATE field, for example:
'195%' - to retrieve all records with a date of manufacture in the 1950s
Note: The database comprises material dating from the post 1940s.
  • To search for publications (e.g. the Computer Conservation Society archives), type 'publication' in the OBJECT NAME field, And enter a Name in the DESCRIPTION field to find an author or publisher, or enter a Title of a publication
  • When you've entered the search term(s) you want, click on the RUN QUERY button to start your search. Click Reset to clear all entered fields.
  • If you're not sure which field the word will appear in, click the KEYWORD button to search across all fields in the database.
  • Records retrieved in a SEARCH are sorted in the following order, first by DATE, then MAKER, and OBJECT TYPE
