Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering includes technologies associated with mechanical power and the processes of manufacture. These include: the development, conversion, transmission and application of motive power; the processing of materials in industrial and craft manufacture (including forming, cutting, joining, assembling, control of dimensions and geometry); the organisation of production; lifting, handling and pumping; the manufacture of textiles and paper; and the performance of other specialised tasks.
Remarks
The Mechanical Engineering collections cover all historical periods, being particularly rich in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century material, plus a significant number of seminal objects from the eighteenth century.
