The King George III Collection

The grand orrery

It is not known who originally made this orrery, but it has been referred to as Wright's grand orrery because of the extensive modifications which Thomas Wright made to it in 1733 for King George II. An orrery is a mechanism which demonstrates the movements of the planets within the Solar System.
